Tom has been a leader all his life -- from the time he was a quarterback on his high school football team to being a flight commander at the U.S. Air Force Academy to running the Logistics for the Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Test Site on Kwajalein Atoll. Tom knows how to get things done even in the toughest situations and the most complex bureaucracies.
Tom grew up in northern Indiana playing most sports. In the summer of 1968, his family moved to southern Florida where Tom attended high school, participating in football, basketball, and track. Tom graduated from Naples High School, Naples, FL in 1972. That same summer, Tom accepted an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy Preparatory School in Colorado Springs, CO and then was accepted into the Air Force Academy, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree, in General, Studies in 1977. He received his Masters of Science Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from Troy State University in 1986 followed by an Educational Specialist Degree (Ed.S) in Human Resource Development from George Washington University in 1991. In 1999, Tom earned a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University. Tom's deep appreciation of the value of higher education formed the basis for his extensive problem-solving skills and his ability to see alternatives, solutions, and opportunities where most others do not -- and implement them!
Tom spent 22 years on active duty in the United State Air Force retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1998. His assignments included Travis Air Force Base, CA, Republic of Korea, PACAF Headquarters Staff at Hickam Air Force Base HI, Lajes Field, Azores, Portugal, and many others. By the end of his career, he had successfully completed and thoroughly enjoyed serving in 11 varied and exciting assignments in 22 Years.
Tom has taken on challenging jobs in various communities after his retirement from the Air Force, including the University of Southern California, City of Reno, NV, City of Yuba City, CA, Elk Grove, CA, and El Dorado County, CA usually filling critical leadership voids and, as a result, leaving these communities and their citizens better off as a result of his leadership and commitment to always doing the next right thing. Tom was also a Town Manager in Florida. Most recently, he ran the Logistics for the Reagan Ballistic Missile Test Site in the South Pacific on Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands. In all these positions, Tom’s innate ability to find better ways of doing business allowed him and his team to make significant improvements in those areas under his puriew.
